Replacing an overhead door can be a daunting task, but with the right tools and knowledge, it can be done easily and efficiently. Here are the six steps to follow when replacing an overhead door.

1. Measure the Door

Measuring the door is a crucial first step in replacing an overhead door. To measure the door, start by measuring the width and height of the opening.

Use a tape measure to measure the distance between the inside edges of the frame, both horizontally and vertically. Make sure to take accurate measurements, as any errors in measurement could result in a door that does not fit properly.

2. Remove the Old Door

Once you have measured the old door, the next step is to remove it. Start by disconnecting the automatic opener, then remove the brackets and tracks that hold the door in place. Carefully remove the old door from the opening, taking care not to damage the surrounding frame.

3. Install the New Door

Once you have measured the opening, it's time to install the new door. Begin by attaching the brackets and tracks to the frame. The brackets and tracks should be securely fastened, as they will support the weight of the door. After the brackets and tracks are attached, carefully insert the new door into the opening.

Use a level to ensure that the door is plumb, and adjust the brackets and tracks as necessary.

4. Attach the Springs

Once the new door is in place, the next step is to attach the springs. Springs help to balance the weight of the door, making it easier to open and close. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to attach the springs to the door and the frame.

5. Install the Automatic Opener

If you are installing an automatic opener, the next step is to install it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to attach the opener to the door and the frame. Test the opener to ensure that it is working properly, and adjust the settings as necessary.

6. Test the Door

Once the door is installed, it's important to test it to ensure that it is functioning properly. Open and close the door several times, checking to see that it opens and closes smoothly and evenly. Make sure that the door is balanced, meaning that it stays in place when opened to any position.

Test the door's seal by checking for any gaps between the door and the frame, and make any necessary adjustments.
